LTO suspend issuance of student
driver’ permit
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the issuance of
student driver’s permit starting July 1.
LTO Iligan District Office Chief Monadato M. Mangadang said
starting August 3, 2020 applicants who want to acquire student driver’s permit
should have already undergone a 15- hour theoretical driving course.
He said effective July 1, LTO will suspend the issuance of student
driver’s permit because by August. LTO
will be requiring a 15 hour driving theoretical driving course for those
interested individual.
“By August 3, we will be requiring applicants to undergo the
required 15 hours of theoretical session,” Mangadang said in an interview by
IGM.
He said by August, electronic certificates will be transmitted by LTO
Central Office to LTO Iligan City for a compliance road safety advocacy.
He added as per road crash investigation, the Philippines have the
highest number as far as vehicular accident is concern. “It is said vehicular
accident such as over speeding, reckless driving, and other accident were intentionally
done.
“With this new LTO guidelines for students driver’s permit, we
will be educating drivers through this required 15 hour theoretical driving session
for two(2 ) days.
He said for those who will be applying student driver’s permit they
should pass the said requirement from the accredited driving schools.
Mangadang said after the 15 hour driving session, a digital
examination will follow in the LTO office for final issuance of student driver’s
permit.
He said computers that will be used for the digital examinations
are very sophisticated that will automatically shut-down if there is any
intervention.
Mangadang identified accredited driving schools and these are Mona
driving school, Land driving school, DL Mabuhay and Sunrise driving school.
Mangadang said the estimate cost to enroll for the said
requirement is estimated to be One Thousand six hundred (P1,600) pesos for two
(2) days.
He said for those who are willing to undergo the theoretical
driving course they should visit LTO office personally to assist and guide
them.
Mangadang added applicants should also bring valid birth
certificate with them.
He stressed that by August 3, 2020 applicants
who wish to acquire student driver’s permit will be required to undergo the
required regulations on driving theoretical session which they (LTO and
accredited driving schools) had set the requirements and where they could
enroll.
Meanwwhile, LTO Chief Mangadang also said
that by July, an emission center will be opening for Iligan City for LTO
clients.
Mangadang also urged motorcycle drivers to
refrain from using modified mufflers and put a silencer instead.
He said LTO has been campaigning against
modified mufflers and has been confiscating more than a thousand already.
“With the presence of media personalities
that we had invited and the joint efforts of our counterpart the PNP, we
destroyed these modified mufflers”, he said.
Mangadang added for those drivers who will be
apprehended they will be fined of Five thousand (P5,000.00) pesos.
“ I am giving stern warning to those
violators that LTO will run after them and they will be treated as violators
whoever they are. Violation is violation”, Mangadang said.
On motorcycle back-riding, he said, LTO as
government agency will do its part to prevent the spread of the pandemic
coronavirus disease (Covid 19) by following social distancing the order of the
national government to avoid back-riding policy.
